Travel Tips - Sweden
Stockholm for a fun weekend
The currency is not the euro but the Swedish krona (kr). €10 = approx. 98krFlight Paris - Stockholm (Ryanair) approx. €55 - duration 2h20.
The city of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is spread over 14 large islands.
At the airport, take the Arlanda Express. The journey will take only 20 minutes to the central station, or take the Flygbussarna bus, with free Wi-Fi, to reach the centre of Stockholm (45 minutes).
For transport, it is preferable to buy an unlimited public transport card (bus, metro, tram, and ferry).
For the ferry, be careful, it doesn't necessarily run in winter!)
To see:
- Gamla Stan is the historic city centre, with its small medieval streets.
- Discover Stortorget square and its large, very colourful buildings.
- Free, the changing of the guard, in front of the residence of the King of Sweden (around 12:00 PM).
- The Vasamuseet museum, essential for discovering the "Vasa" warship from the 17th century, 98% intact. This galleon sank on its inauguration day, August 10, 1628, in Stockholm Bay. King Gustav II Adolf had ordered the ship to have a second cannon deck, even though it was only designed for one.
- The Museum of Modern Art is located on Djurgården island.
Admission is free on Fridays between 6 PM and 8 PM. It is possible to walk there from the city centre (for those who like to walk!). Permanent exhibition (see the superb large-format Matisse artwork) and temporary exhibitions.
